First Chant: The Good News
The Lord gives good news of a son
and his name is Jesus.
And the Lord speaks to Jesus
even before his earthly birth:
“Take hold of the knowledge with might
and receive wisdom
even before you come to earth.“
Erster Gesang: Die gute Nachricht
Der Herr gibt gute Nachricht
von einem Sohn und sein Name ist Jesus.
Und der Herr spricht zu Jesus
noch vor seiner irdischen Geburt:
“Kraftvoll ergreife das Wissen
und empfange Weisheit
bereits vor deinem Kommen zur Erde.“
Second Chant: The Lord’s Blessings
The Lord now to Jesus says:
“Compassion and healing love for all creation
I give to you and purity.
Warm-hearted you will be to all,
soulful and kind.
Peace will be on you
the day that you are born,
the day that you come home
and the day when you bring eternal life.”
Zweiter Gesang: Die Segnungen des Herrn
Der Herr dann zu Jesus spricht:
“Mitleid und heilende Liebe für alles Erschaffene
gebe ich dir und ein reines Wesen.
Warmherzig wirst du sein zu allen,
beseelt und sanft.
Friede wird bei dir sein am Tag deiner Geburt,
am Tag, an dem nach Hause du kommst
und an dem Tag, wenn du
das ewige Leben bringst.“
Third Chant: His Mother Maria conceives Jesus
Maria went to a place in the East
where, in the body of a man,
an angel came to her and said:
“A messenger I am from the Highest
to bring to you the gift of a son.
A sign he will be for men
and a mercy from the Lord.”
And she conceived him and with him
withdrew to a secret place.
Dritter Gesang: Seine Mutter Maria empfängt Jesus
Zu einem Ort im Osten ging Maria,
wo, im Körper eines Mannes,
ein Engel zu ihr kam und sprach:
“Ein Botschafter bin ich, kommend vom Höchsten,
zu bringen dir das Geschenk eines Sohnes.
Ein Zeichen wird er sein für die Menschen
und ein Gnadengeschenk des Höchsten.”
Und sie empfing ihn und suchte auf mit ihm
einen verborgenen Ort.
Fourth Chant: Maria brings Jesus to birth
The pains of childbirth drove her
to the trunk of a palm-tree
and a voice spoke:
“Grieve not, for the Lord has made
a rivulet flow for you,
and shake towards thyself the palm tree:
It will let fall fresh ripe dates upon thee.
So eat and drink and cool your eyes.”
And soon Maria brought her son to birth.
Vierter Gesang: Maria bringt Jesus auf die Welt
Die Wehen der Geburt trieben sie
zum Stamm einer Dattelpalme
und eine Stimme sprach:
“Sorge dich nicht, denn dein Herr
hat dir ein Bächlein fließen lassen,
und schüttele die Palme zu dir:
Sie wird frische, reife Datteln auf dich fallen lassen.
So iss und trink und kühle deine Augen.”
Und alsbald brachte Maria ihren Sohn auf die Welt.
Fifth Chant: Maria brings Jesus to her people
Maria now brought the baby to her people,
carrying him in her arms and they said:
“O Maria! Someone wonderful
you have brought!”
And she pointed to the baby, saying:
“He will be revealed by himself
to you.”
Fünfter Gesang: Maria bringt Jesus zu ihren Leuten
Auf ihren Armen trug Maria
das Kind zu ihren Leuten,
die sprachen:
“O Maria! Jemand Wunderbaren
hast du gebracht!”
Und sie zeigte auf das Kind, mit den Worten:
“Er selbst wird sich euch
offenbaren.”
Sixth Chant: The child in the cradle
They said: “How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?”
And they heard his voice: “I am a servant of the Highest.
From there I am given revelation and power.
From there I am blessed wheresoever I be,
from there I receive oneness and compassion forever.”
And as he grew he performed
miracles and great deeds on earth,
and often he did not appear to them
as adult man, but was found among them as a child.
Sechster Gesang: Das Kind in der Wiege
Sie sagten: “Wie sollen wir zu ihm reden,
der noch ein Kind ist in der Wiege?”
Und sie hörten seine Stimme: “Ein Diener bin ich des Höchsten.
Von dort ist mir gegeben Offenbarung und die Kraft.
Von dort bin ich gesegnet, wo immer ich sei,
von dort empfange ich Einssein und Barmherzigkeit für immer.”
Und als er heranwuchs brachte er
Wunder und große Taten auf die Erde,
und oft erschien er ihnen nicht als erwachsener Mann,
sondern befand sich unter ihnen als ein Kind.
