Down yonder green valley where
streamlets meander, when twilight is fading
we dreamingly roam.
Or at the bright moontide blissfully wander,
amid the cool shades of lovers’ sweet grove.
‘twas there while the blackbird
was cheerfully singing, I first met that dear one,
the joy of my heart,
around as for gladness
the bluebells were ringing, ah,
how much I longed to be in her heart.
Still glows the bright sunshine
o’er valley and mountains,
still warbles the blackbird its note from the tree.
Still trembles the moonbeam
on streamlet and fountain.
But greater are the beauties of my loved one and me.
With gladness and warmth my heart is a-beatin’,
all day I feel and think of my love.
Ye echoes! O sing me the song of my maiden:
“She’s comin’, she’s flyin’ rose-cheeked into my arms.”
Down yonder green valley where
stream lets meander, when twilight is fading
we dreamingly roam.
Or at the bright moontide blissfully wander,
amid the cool shades of lovers’ sweet grove.
